ZIF-67 In Situ Grown on Attapulgite: A Flame Retardant Synergist for Ethylene Vinyl Acetate/Magnesium Hydroxide Composites

Abstract: ZIF-67@ATP was prepared by the in situ growth of the zeolite imidazole frame (ZIF-67) on the surface of attapulgite (ATP). The structure and surface morphology of ZIF-67@ATP were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Different mass fractions of ATP and ZIF-67@ATP were added to ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/magnesium hydroxide (MH) composites a… Show more

“…Therefore, when MH is compounded with MHPA, the thermal stability of HDPE/MHPA/MH can be effectively improved, and T 5% can be increased to 421.8°C. In addition, the change of temperature of the maximum thermal decomposition rate ( T m ) is also affected by the early decomposition of MHPA 19,20 . It can be seen from Figure 3b that the T m of samples containing MHPA decreases to about 472.9°C, while the T m of pure HDPE and HDPE/MH samples is higher, up to 488.8°C, which indicates that the addition of MH does not promote the early decomposition of HDPE.…”

“…The peaks of NiCo-ZIF are consistent with those reported in the literature, further indicating the successful synthesis of NiCo-ZIF. 35,36 For MIL-100, the peak at 1649 cm −1 corresponds to the stretching vibration of the C]O acid ligand, suggesting that the carboxyl group in H 4 DODBC is deprotonated and then coordinated with Fe 3+ to form Fe-MIL-100. 37 In the FT-IR spectrum of NiCo-ZIF@MIL (1 : 2), the disappearance of characteristic peaks of NiCo-ZIF may be due to the coating with MIL-100.…”

“…Vermiculite also exhibits layered microstructures containing magnesium, aluminum, iron, and silicon, which is intumescent and peels off the surface of building materials under fire [ 37 ]. In addition, natural minerals such as attapulgite and halloysite are nanotubes or nanorods, which can easily disperse in flame-retardant coatings [ 38 , 39 ].…”
