Zeolite Nanoparticles for Selective Sorption of Plasma Proteins

Abstract: The affinity of zeolite nanoparticles (diameter of 8–12 nm) possessing high surface area and high pore volume towards human plasma proteins has been investigated. The protein composition (corona) of zeolite nanoparticles has been shown to be more dependent on the plasma protein concentrations and the type of zeolites than zeolite nanoparticles concentration. The number of proteins present in the corona of zeolite nanoparticles at 100% plasma (in vivo state) is less than with 10% plasma exposure. This could be … Show more

“…Natural CZ and its modified versions are prospective materials for pharmaceutics and biomedicine due to their nontoxicity, thermal stability, chemical tailorability, biocompatibility, and capability to adsorb different molecules and biological objects into their micro-and mesopores. [19][20][21] CZ is safe for human. It is used as an adsorbent of toxic metals, radioactive elements, and free radicals.…”

“…Zeolites are crystalline aluminosilicate microporous minerals and are considered widely used in many potential applications, such as adsorption, ion exchange, drug delivery, and catalysis [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. 2 of 16 In particular, Cs-pollucite is interesting because it has strong basic sites due to the presence of the alkali Cs + cation [10,11].…”

“…4 Zeolites are crystalline microporous aluminosilicates that have been widely used for adsorption, ion exchange, and catalysis. 5,6 Currently, more than 230 types of zeolites are known, but only some of them are commercially available and used in industry. ABW-type zeolite is a small-pore zeolite, where its 8 ring pores are organized in a zig-zag arrangement, forming a one-dimensional channel system (diameter of 3.4 × 3.8 Å 2 ) .…”
