Zein‐based microcapsule for vanillin sustained release

Abstract: Currently, microcapsules are attracting great attention and becoming more and more widely used in sustained release system. In this research, zein‐based microcapsules were prepared by anti‐solvent precipitation technology and spray drying. The properties of as‐prepared microcapsules were optimized by adjusting the reaction conditions and parameters such as the mass ratio of zein to vanillin, the drying temperature and whether polyethylene glycol was added or not. Meanwhile, the morphologies, chemical structure… Show more

“…40 The maximum thermal degradation temperatures of pure quercetin, resveratrol, CMC, and zein were 347, 333, 291, 330 °C, respectively. 31 These results show that the polyphenols had a higher thermal stability than the biopolymers. For zein-, ZC-, QRZ-and QRZC-nanoparticles, the weight loss observed at higher temperatures can be attributed to thermal degradation of the proteins, polyphenols, and/or polysaccharides within them.…”

“…Thermal analysis of freeze-dried samples was performed by thermogravimetric analyses by measuring the change in mass with increasing temperature (TGA2, Mettler Toledo, Shanghai, China). 31 Briefly, each sample was placed onto a crucible, then heated from 30 to 600 °C at a constant rate of 10 °C min −1 with a constant purging of dry nitrogen at a rate of 20 mL min −1 .…”

“…In addition to the food field, the use of EOs is a very promising topic for the perfume, fragrance, and cosmeceutical industries. [418][419][420] Since most of the fragrances or aroma compounds, [421][422][423] including esters, terpenes, aldehydes, and alcohols, are volatile compounds, 424 effective preservation and controlled release of fragrance with appropriate substrate materials is essential in practical application. 425 Polymeric microcapsules, indeed, led to overcoming the main concerns related to volatile compound preservation, delivery as well as release, and several industrial products contain fragrances in an encapsulated form for the final usage of customers.…”

“…However, its application is limited owing to its sensitivity to light, heat, pH, and other conditions. 4,5 Therefore, we need a carrier to protect TTO and overcome the limitations of TTO application. Microcapsules are tiny particles formed with polymer wall materials coating core materials, which are solids, liquids and gases.…”
