Youngiibacter fragilis gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from natural gas production-water and reclassification of Acetivibrio multivorans as Youngiibacter multivorans comb. nov.

Abstract: A taxonomic study employing a polyphasic approach was performed on a novel anaerobic bacterium isolated from natural gas production-water. The bacterium stained Gram-negative and consisted of non-motile, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped cells. Products of glucose or starch fermentation were ethanol, CO2, formate, acetate and H2. The predominant fatty acids were C16 : 0 ALDE and summed feature 3 comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c. The DNA G+C content was 45.5 mol%. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis demonstrated… Show more

“…(Liu et al 2002), Youngiibacter spp. (Lawson et al 2014) and Macellibacteroides spp. (Jabari et al 2012) characterized with high relative abundance were present in the enrichment of the fermenter F1 and presumably originated from the sour whey.…”

“…multivorans and A . saccharofermentans are known to ferment carbohydrates [ 48 , 49 ], and may be the primary degraders of CDP here. A .…”

“…saccharofermentans remained the dominant Clostridia within the clone libraries, however the prevalence of Y . multivorans was reduced, perhaps reflecting its reported pH maximum of pH 8.0 [ 49 ]. The number of species detected in the pH 10.0 microcosm increased to 17 from 14 at pH 7.5, with Clostridia still predominant.…”

“…Recovered 13 C-labeled SIP and pyrosequencing OTUs belonging to Clostridiaceae shared 86–99% nucleotide sequence identity to cultured representatives of the Youngiibacter (formerly known as Acetivibrio ), a recently described genus capable of fermenting a broad range of carbohydrates and aromatic acids [ 55 , 56 , 57 ] ( Figure 5 ). The OTUs also share 84–99% sequence identity to the dominant Firmicutes detected in 2-MN and 2, 6-diMN [ 22 ].…”
