“…Figure 4 illustrates the influence of arthritis and of the various treatments on several oxidative stress parameters in plasma. Confirming previous observations (Correa et al, 2019), the levels of protein carbonyls and plasma activity of myeloperoxidase were increased by arthritis. On the other hand, plasma content of thiol groups and plasma total antioxidant capacity (TAC -ABTS •+ scavenging capacity) were decreased.…”

“…The beneficial effects of the applied treatment should be explained by the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of Yerba Mate components (e.g., derivatives of chlorogenic acid). Hence, the conclusion that daily consumption of traditional Yerba Mate drinks may be effective in alleviating the symptoms of inflammatory diseases, especially in elderly people [79].…”

“…The microwave protected the degradation of these compounds when drying the leaf [43] by inactivating the enzyme to a potential oxidation. These compounds found in the extract have been reported to also present hepatoprotective [44] and anticancer [45] properties and attenuate symptoms of inflammatory diseases [46] which act through a mechanism known as oxidative stress [47].…”
