“…The magnesium reduction of RHA to produce silicon has also been investigated by Banerjee et al 9 and by Ikram and Akhter. 10 Banerjee et al reduced acid leached RHA by intimately mixing the ash with magnesium powder and firing the powdered mixture in a sealed graphite crucible in a muffle furnace. Following a similar approach but with 4 N magnesium purity, Ikram and Akhter reported reduction of RHA at a temperature of 620uC to yield silicon of 99?95% purity after acid leaching purification steps.…”
