Wrinkling Analysis of Pre-Stressed Rectangular Membranes Using Element-Free Galerkin Method

Abstract: In this study, element-free Galerkin method (EFGM), a meshless method, is proposed for wrinkling analysis of pre-stressed rectangular membranes. The mathematical model for studying wrinkling of pre-stressed membranes is derived by considering the bending stiffness, though it is negligible. Moving least-square approximation for deflection is constructed by considering three degrees of freedom per node. Essential boundary conditions are imposed using scaled transformation matrix method. Initially, compression-in… Show more

“…The active wrinkle reduction technique is suggested by Wang et al 25 The active wrinkle reduction method needs a dedicated power source and the sensor and actuation unit, which makes the system complex. Unnikrishnan et al 26 have used an Element-Free Galerkin Method (a meshless method) for the wrinkling analysis. Sakamoto et al 27 used boundary web cable techniques for maintaining the bi-axial state of stresses using the suspension cable.…”
