“…Nearly all investigators of cell contractility in collagen gels have used fibroblasts from skin or non-wound tissue (Bell ct al., 1979;Clark et al, 1989;Ehrlich and White, 1983;Montesano and Orci, 1988). In many instances where contraction or contracture occurs, investigators have identified a modified fibroblast which difyers from a normal fibroblast in its morphology (Gabbiani, 1981;Rudolph, 1980;Ariyan et al, 1978;Majno et al, 1971) and cytoskeletal protein content (Ryan et al, 1974). These cells has been observed in human granulation tissue (Ryan et al, 1974), in Peyronie's disease (Ariyan et al, 1978), in Dupuytren's contracture (Gabbiani and Majno, 1972), and in breast capsule contraction around implants (Ariyan et al, 1978), to name a few instances.…”
