Objective: Pedestrian injuries are a major cause of morbidity and mortality to children, especially boys. Adults serve as pedestrian role models and provide learning opportunities to children when walking to school. The research objectives were to investigate adult pedestrian behaviour when accompanying boys and girls.Methods: Behavioural observation of 140 adult pedestrians accompanying 4 -9 year-old children was done in British residential locations. Observations took place at light-controlled crossings, speed restricted school safety zones and mid-block unmarked crossing sites.Behaviours observed included stopping at the curb, waiting at the curb, looking left and right before and during road crossing, holding hands, talking, and walking straight across. Results:In general, adults modeled safe road crossing behaviours. Adult safe behaviour scores were higher when accompanying girls than when accompanying boys. No statistically significant differences were found by child age group. The fewest safe pedestrian behaviors were observed at light-controlled crossings. Conclusions:Adult pedestrians behave differently when with boys and girls and at different types of road crossing site. Interventions aimed at reducing pedestrian injuries to children may need to take these different everyday experiences into consideration.

Background: Television (TV) trolley tip-over incidences are common and can cause significant morbidity and mortality in children. This study was aimed at analyzing the pattern and outcomes of head injuries resulting from TV trolley tip-over. Method: We conducted a medical chart review of children with TV trolley tip-over head injuries from January 2009 to April 2016. We collected data on demographics, the mechanism of injury, clinical and radiological features of the injury, and outcomes. Outcomes were measured by means of the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) at 6 months (except in 1 case). A descriptive analysis was carried out using SPSS v19. Result: Twenty-two children were included in the study (median age 23.5 months). Sixteen children were male. Most of the children (n = 16) were aged 12-35 months. The median Glasgow Coma Scale score on admission was 15. The median Rotterdam Score for the patients was 2.0. Common symptoms upon admission were vomiting, irritability, scalp laceration, and bruises. Median length of hospital stay was 3 days. Skull bone fractures were present in 12 children. Other CT findings included contusions, extradural and subdural haematomas, intraventricular haemorrhage, and pneumocranium. Surgical intervention was required in 4 cases. Although most of the patients made a good recovery (GOS = 5), 1 patient developed a mild disability and another died in hospital. Conclusion: TV trolley tip-over is most common in toddlers and can lead to significant head injury and mortality. This can be avoided by parental supervision and adjustments in the household.

Children are one of the most vulnerable groups in traffic accidents. Correct use of car seat can effectively reduce the children's injury and fatality in traffic accidents. First of all, this paper analyzes the trend of the children's injury and fatality caused by traffic accidents in China, and introduces the survey on misuse of car seats in several large cities in China. Then, this paper analyzes the children's injury by car seat misuse tests, and proposes the study method and framework about the Ease-of-Use Rating of car seat based on the different safety factors which are related to different misuse circumstances. Moreover, through the future analysis and verification, such as ease-of-use tests, misuse tests and hierarchical analysis, the China Car Seat Ease-of-Use Rating is proposed. This study will promote the industry to further emphasize the ease-of-use design of car seat, and also further improve the use rate of car seat in China.
