Work Transitions

Abstract: The healthcare environment is changing rapidly. Work reorganization and redesign can lead to department and unit closures, resulting in work transitions for many staff members. The authors describe the findings of focus groups held with staff and management on units that have closed. These interviews highlight the difficulties encountered with change and provide suggestions to reduce uncertainty during department or unit closures.
