Combretum leprosum is a plant species with wide distribution in Brazil known as “mofumbo”, standing out in studies associated with its pharmacological and ethnobotanical activity. The medicinal applications of the species are widely reported in the literature, using the bark, leaves and flowers as healing agents. Given the economic, pharmacological and ecological importance, this work aimed to present a systematic review of production, conservation status and knowledge about the species in different fields of knowledge. The literature review was based on seven categories, characterized according to the study area: biological and/or pharmacological activity (32 articles), importance of conservation status (29), botanical aspects (18), phytochemistry (9), geographic distribution (8), foraging (5) and ethnobotanical uses (2). Most of the works address biological and/or pharmacological activity of the species, and its application is focused on antitumor action, treatment against Chagas disease, antinociceptive behavior, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative action. Among the compounds isolated from C. leprosum with different applications, 3β-6β-16β-trihydroxylup-20(29)-ene stands out, a lupane triterpene isolated from different parts of the plant, associated with different medicinal and therapeutic applications. The species was highlighted in works associated with environmental regeneration, being resistant to different phytophysiognomies and showing tolerance to environments contaminated by heavy metals, being able to represent an important species in reforestation programs and recovery of degraded environments. However, even with the growing number of studies associated with C. leprosum in recent years, the species does not have an assessment regarding its degree of threat, demonstrating the need for research associated with the species and the possible impacts that its representatives may suffer, helping in sustainable development and conservation programs.

O estudo objetivou avaliar os parâmetros fitossociológicos do componente lenhoso adulto em uma área de mata ciliar degradada no município de Serra Branca, Semiárido paraibano. O sistema ecológico selecionado para o trabalho foi a mata ciliar do riacho Lagoa da Serra (7°30’04.32’’ S e 36°42’13.12’’ W; 511 m de altitude), onde estabeleceu-se 50 parcelas contíguas de 10 x 20 m, distribuídas ao longo do curso d’água. Os critérios de inclusão utilizados foram amostrar os indivíduos arbustivosarbóreos, vivos e mortos em pé, com diâmetro do caule ao nível do solo (DNS) ≥ 3 cm e altura total ≥ 1 m. Foram calculados os valores absolutos e relativos de densidade, frequência e dominância, e os valores de cobertura e importância. Calculou-se também os valores de diversidade e equabilidade. Os indivíduos foram classificados em classes diamétricas e de altura. Foram registradas 20 espécies distribuídas em dez famílias e 16 gêneros. Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC. apresentou os maiores valores nos parâmetros fitossociológicos. As espécies mais representativas em ordem decrescente para o valor de importância foram P. juliflora, Cereus jamacaru DC., Cynophalla flexuosa (L.) J.Presl, Jatropha mollissima (Pohl) Baill e a categoria Mortos. O somatório dos percentuais dessas espécies com a categoria mortos representou 76,99% para valor de importância total. P. juliflora apresentou sozinha 50,71% do valor de importância da comunidade analisada. Os valores de diversidade e equabilidade foram 1,63 nats.ind.-1 e 0,535 respectivamente. As três primeiras classes de diâmetro (3 a 12 cm) e de altura (1 a 4 m) representaram 69,84 e 72,21% do total de indivíduos amostrados respectivamente. Portanto, os dados gerados se mostram importantes para direcionar estratégias de manejo e recuperação de sistemas ciliares degradados de Caatinga, sendo assim também uma relevante contribuição para a gestão dos recursos hídricos no Semiárido brasileiro. A dissertação se alinha aos itens 6 e 15 da agenda 2030. Item 6 – Água potável e saneamento; Item 15 – Vida terrestre.
