Purpose The purpose of this study is to determine how project governance influences project success. According to the authors, such an effect is mediated by organizational support and project team cohesion. The direct and indirect effects of organizational support and project team cohesion provided helpful information. The authors’ objective is to contribute to the project management knowledge of how project team cohesion plays a significant role in project success. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 350 employees working in Pakistan’s oil and gas industry. Four prime oil and gas exploration companies were selected as samples based on their contribution to the revenue. SPSS v23 and AMOS v23 were used for constructing structural equation modeling and path analysis to examine the direct and indirect effects. Findings The results revealed that project governance is positively related to project success. Furthermore, organizational support and project team cohesion mediated the relationship between project governance and project success. Originality/value Team cohesion has been primarily a topic of interest in sports psychology literature, education and medical sciences. There is an expressed need to investigate team cohesion issues in the broad domain of organizational development, specifically the project management literature. This study contributed by discussing team cohesion in the project context. Second, project governance was investigated using the conservation of resources theory. The lens of intellectual capital was applied to examine intangible resources of project governance like rules, regulations and directives for project success.

The paper developed a multilevel model (MLM) of postgraduate (PG) supervision to improve the academic publication and PG completion rate. Crowdsourcing essentials were used in the development of the model. The crowds consisted of the MLM made of students from Honours to doctoral levels. Teamwork was also implored, where the teams were level mates and supervisory teams. The simplest form of the model has the potential to generate over 65 academic manuscripts for journals. Monitoring of the supervision process can provide maximized completion of the PG research studies. Research capacity building would be effected for the doctoral and master’s students making them able to supervise and co-supervise from Honours to doctoral levels upon completion of their studies. The study condemned the use of a single supervisor for several doctoral students. It recommended the implementation of the model (the MLM PG Supervision Framework). It further recommended that doctoral students should be assigned co-supervisors, preferably varied for different students, to enable diversity in the supervision experience.

Software development projects demand high levels of interaction between work team members. This way, management and decision-making must be supported by analyzing the complex dynamics generated through individual interactions to complete the projects. This complexity can be addressed using system dynamics. This modeling approach studies how the structures and relationships between variables in a system interact to generate behaviors over time. It is used to understand and analyze complex systems and make informed decisions. The first step in modeling is articulating the problem. This step defines the key variables that will be included in the model. Still, the lack of a standardized procedure to select, measure, and propose causal relationships is evident. Subjectivity is often appealed to, but this could lead to inaccurate models and biased results. The challenge intensifies when it comes to qualitative variables. This study introduces a formal methodology to characterize such variables, addressing a gap in the existing literature. The use of systematic mapping and a survey-based study is proposed. The methodology is applied to characterize three social and human factors that influence the productivity of software development teams: communication, leadership, and teamwork. The results captured primary experimental research's proven definitions, measurement mechanisms, and causal relationships. This formalized approach not only fills a significant gap in system dynamics but also lays a foundation for expanding its scope to encompass additional variables. As such, it represents a substantial methodological contribution to the field.
