Wireless information and power transfer in full-duplex communication systems

Abstract: Abstract-This paper considers the problem of maximizing the sum-rate for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIFT) in a full-duplex bi-directional communication system subject to energy harvesting and transmit power constraints at both nodes. We investigate the optimum design of the receive power splitters and transmit powers for SWIFT in full-duplex mode. Exploiting rate-split method, an iterative algorithm is derived to solve the non-convex problem. The effectiveness of the proposed algori… Show more

“…HD mode based on the simple design and implementation is popularly used in the traditional wireless power communication networks. But the HD scheme can transmit and receive the signal at the same time in the same frequency band, and then the HD scheme has a massive spectrum efficiency loss [9][10][11]. In comparison with the HD scheme, the FD scheme can receive and transmit signals continuously and can achieve up to double the capacity.…”

“…The HD model is popularly proposed in traditional WPCN due to simple of the system design and implementation. However, the HD led to significant spectrum efficiency loss [12][13][14]. On another way, an FD scheme, where the reception and the transmission processes occur on the same channel at the same time, can achieve up to double the capacity in comparison with the HD scheme.…”

“…Recent advances, however, suggest that full-duplex (FD) communications that allows simultaneous transmission and reception of signals over the same frequency channel is possible [15], [16]. This brings a new opportunity for SWIPT in FD systems [2], [17]. In addition to essentially doubling the bandwidth, FD communications also find additional source of energy in the inherent self-interfering signal.…”

“…In the literature, SWIPT in FD systems have been considered in [2], [17]. In [2], the problem of maximizing the sumrate for SWIPT in FD bidirectional communication system was considered subject to energy harvesting and transmit power constraints at both nodes.…”
