“…This finding is consistent with previous studies showing the attractiveness of water points for wild boars, especially under dry and hot conditions (15, 18, 20, 34, 35, 37, 38). As a result, interactions among wild boars occurred more often at waterholes than at baited places.…”

“…Hence, supplementary feeding does not seem to be attractive for red deer in this area. In Spain also, red deer were rarely observed on feeding points compared to water points or pastures (20, 34, 35). In contrast, wild deer from North America such as elks ( C. elaphus ) and white-tailed deer use cattle-feeding areas (4244).…”

“…This confirms the findings of other descriptive studies carried out in SCS (Barasona et al., , ; Kukielka et al., ). Overall, the relative abundance measured using the camera‐trap monitoring of wild ungulates was higher in DNP than in CR, which is an area with numerous private cattle farms in which hunting is a secondary activity (Carrasco‐Garcia et al., ). Although we did not find relationship between contamination and abundance, it is probably due to high abundance of ungulates in all the study sites, and therefore, the environmental presence of MTC is not sensitive to abundance in our study context.…”
