Wideband monopole antenna with WLAN (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) dual band‐stop function

Abstract: A wideband monopole antenna with dual band‐stop function for WLAN (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) is presented. By cutting away an arched slot from the radiation patch and inserting spur‐lines into the ground, dual band‐stop functions for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN bands are obtained. The proposed antenna operates over 1.9–11 GHz for VSWR <2, while providing a band‐stop function in the frequency bands of 2.2–2.5 GHz and 5.15–6.1 GHz. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “…A dual band notch characteristics is reported in a compact microstrip fed planar antenna by embedding a U-shape defected ground structure and an E-shape slot in the radiation patch for eliminating WiMax and WLAN bands respectively [13]. An arc cut from circular patch and two L-shape slots from ground is also reported to have dual notch bands [14]. A rectangular patch with stair case at bottom and inverted U shape slot for notching satellite service band along with CSRR on the feedline has been presented in [15].…”

“…A square shaped SRR is printed on the circular shaped radiating element [14]. Two L-shaped slots are cut from the ground plane with a arc is cut from the circular radiating patch [15]. A deep almost full shaped arc is cut in the annular circular ring [16].…”

“…To avoid possible interference between UWB and existing WLAN and WiMAX systems, it is desirable to design the UWB antenna with dual stopbands to minimize the potential interference. Some UWB antennas with band-stop characteristic have been reported [2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. However, many of them were designed with only one stopband for WLAN application [2][3][4][5].…”

“…The stopband is achieved by etching slots or split resonant rings (SRR) in the patch. Dual stopband UWB antenna is relatively scant [6][7][8][9]. The dual stopbands are formed by inserting two u-shaped or other slots into a monopole radiator.…”
