Wide-bandwidth time decay responses from low-metal mines and ground voids

Abstract: This paper presents wide bandwidth, time decay responses from low metal content (LMC) mines, LMC mine simulates, and ground voids. Measurements were collected both in the laboratory and in the field. The target time decay responses were measured with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory developed Electromagnetic Target Discriminator (ETD) sensor developed for the US Army CECOMJNVSED. The ETD sensor has demonstrated the ability to measure metal target decay times starting approximately 3 to 5… Show more

“…The project objectives were to develop the 3DSMF Sensor System and demonstrate that it directly measures the three components of the MPT of a metal object for target classification. The 3DSMF Sensor System employs wide bandwidth TD EMI sensor technology originally developed for a landmine detection project for the US Army [5,6,7,8,9] using custom designed and constructed electronics optimized for metal detection sensitivity and data collection speed.…”
