Diesel is the most used fuel for buses and other urban transport vehicles in European countries. This paper deals with impacts on emissions production from the operation of the urban public transport fleet after its renewal. To what extent can the renewal of the urban public transport fleet in the city of Žilina contribute to increasing environmental sustainability in the way of reducing air pollution? The vehicle fleet change has partially consisted of vehicle traction system transition-diesel buses were substituted by hybrid driven (HEV) and electric driven buses (BEV). How can the direct and indirect emissions from the operation of vehicles be calculated? These were the posed research questions. The research aimed to propose a methodology for the calculation of direct and indirect emissions. Indirect emissions values (WtT—Well-to-Tank) for different types of fuels and tractions were obtained based on regression functions. These WtT emission factors together with the existing TtW (Tank-to-Wheels) emission factors (direct emissions) can be used for the assessment of environmental impacts of specific types of vehicles concerning energy source, fuel, or powertrain and type of operation. Direct pollutants such as CO, NOx and PM were calculated with the use of simulation methodology of HBEFA (Handbook of Emission Factors for Road Transport) software. The calculated CO2 savings for the period 2019–2023 about fleet renewal in absolute terms are EUR 1.3 million tons compared to the operation of the original fleet while maintaining the same driving performance. The renewal of the vehicle fleet secured by vehicle traction transition can be a way to reduce the energy intensity and environmental impacts of public transport in Žilina.

Economic and environmental consequences of transport connected to tourism are important topic in tourism transition. Public transport is in many countries strongly underated even though its potential for economic as well es environmental development is considered to be high. The aim of the contribution is to evaluate how the stakeholders involved in the development and management of tourism destinations perceive the importance of public transport and other transport services. A partial goal is to find out how this importance differs between countries and between different types of destinations and what effect public transport has on the development of a given tourism area. International comparison as well as comparison among types of destination in tourism centres for the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, and Mexico was done. Factorial repeated measures ANOVAs was used to test potential differences among those six countries and three types of destinations based on 121 questionnaires. The research was based on the data of expert estimates of stakeholders, i.e. on what the managers who make decisions and formulate policies think. It was therefore not a real state, because it is not about exact measured values. We have found that the contribution of individual means of transport to local development is perceived by stakeholders significantly different. Regardless of the country, public transport is considered the most important development element. Furthermore, it was found that public transport is generally considered to be the most environmentally friendly. It can also be stated that tourism experts expect further development of transport in their destination, but they are not completely satisfied with the state of development preparations. The level of public transport is the worst rated in Mexico, but the experts there are most aware of its influence on the development of tourism and the benefit to the local population. In the Netherlands and Italy, the public administration motivates the use of public transport the most, while in Mexico and the Czech Republic, this support is perceived to be comparatively less. In the Netherlands, Italy and Mexico, they are open to the integration of shared means of transport (e.g., shared bicycles, scooters or Uber) into the public transport system, on the contrary, the Czech Republic is more sceptical of these alternative means of transport. Further development of public transport is planned in all studied countries, and local public administration participates in its operation.

The planning and organisation of public passenger transport in rural areas is a complex process. The transport demand in rural areas is often low, which makes it hard to establish and run a financially sustainable public transport system. A solution is integrated passenger transport that eliminates deficiencies and provides benefits for all participants in the public passenger transport process. This paper describes the impact of integrated passenger transport on mobility in rural areas and critically evaluates different literature sources. Integration of passenger transport in urban areas has been described in the context of rural areas, and the challenges of integration of public passenger transport specific to rural areas have been analysed. Through the application in urban and rural areas, the planning of integrated and non-integrated passenger transport has been functionally analysed. The analysis found an increase in the degree of mobility in the areas that use integrated passenger transport compared to the non-integrated one. This research of the literature review has identified the rural areas of mobility as under-researched. The mobility research can set up a more efficient passenger transport planning system in rural areas.
