With increasing globalization, global English and its association with literacy worldwide have gained widespread attention. Following the law of language learning, more and more countries are making efforts to help their citizens become literate in English from their early years. Picture books have played a crucial part in developing children’s emergent literacy skills. They provide children with fascinating illustrations, advancement in vocabularies, and meaningful sentence structures that go beyond the present contexts. However, picture book reading can be difficult for young English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners due to the lack of English-speaking environment and language accumulation. With regard to this situation, this article analyzes and discusses the common debates on the print concept, phonological awareness, and vocabularies within an EFL early picture book reading setting to shed light on the practical direction in this field. Following this, this article coins relevant supporting strategies to ensure effective English picture book reading among children by developing supplementary activities, encouraging parent-child interaction, and applying multimedia materials. This article ends with a brief conclusion and questions that may need further exploration and research.

It is broadly accepted that requirements engineering is one of the most important phases of a software project, and requires tools to be effective. For a variety of reasons, paper as a tool has lasted for millennia and remains ubiquitous. This paper makes a case for a contextual, conscientious, and evidence-based use of paper in a competency-oriented approach to software requirements engineering education (REE). It argues that the prophecies for the obsolescence of paper are premature, there are unique benefits in the use of paper, and the decision to use paper should be based on [0, 1] rather than {0, 1}. In this regard, a need-centered conceptual model for human-paper interaction is proposed. The characteristics of paper that make it historically unique are reported and the affordances of paper relevant to REE are discussed. The REE-related activities that benefit from viewing paper as a boundary object and using different types of paper are highlighted and illustrated by means of examples. In advocating polyliteracy, the potential for a convergence of paper and digital media towards a harmonic coexistence is underscored.

The arising of novel paradigms in human‐computer interaction (HCI), including tangible user interfaces (TUIs), shape‐changing interfaces, or ubiquitous computing, is breaking down the boundary between physical and digital realms, leading to more natural and immersive forms of interaction. Advances in active and responsive smart materials allow to transform once inanimate objects, such as books, into actively responsive objects. In this work, a hybrid interactive book has been developed. It includes a capacitive touchpad, a piezoelectric speaker, and a piezoresistive platform for drawing and writing digitalization. All interactive elements are based on electroactive polymer films and are processed by additive manufacturing techniques. This work provides a compelling demonstration of how advanced materials can be seamlessly integrated in traditional physical interfaces to enhance interactivity and user experience.This article is protected by copyright.
