Whole venom of Loxosceles similis activates caspases-3, -6, -7, and -9 in human primary skin fibroblasts

Abstract: Spiders of the Loxosceles genus represent a risk to human health due to the systemic and necrotic effects of their bites. The main symptoms of these bites vary from dermonecrosis, observed in the majority of cases, to occasional systemic hemolysis and coagulopathy. Although the systemic effects are well characterized, the mechanisms of cell death triggered by the venom of these spiders are poorly characterized. In this study, we investigated the cell death mechanisms induced by the whole venom of the spider Lo… Show more

“…Comparativamente no caso relatado, a ferida ocludiu em menos da metade do tempo. As feridas, histórico e achados clínicos de Machado et al (2009) condizem com Chatzaki et al (2012), Dantas et al (2014) e Ramos et al (2015). Entretanto, os achados clínicos e o tratamento usando o presente caso foram diferentes; não houve necrose tecidual e o fechamento da ferida ocorreu em três semanas.…”

“…Another study showed that keratinocyte-secreted matrix metalloproteinase contributed to the induction of dermonecrosis by both Loxoscles laeta and Loxosceles intermedia venom (Correa et al, 2016). Moreover, Loxosceles venom triggers cell death by apoptosis in human skin fibroblasts (Dantas et al, 2014) and keratinocytes, contributing to the pathogenesis of cutaneous loxoscelism (Paixao-Cavalcante & Van den Berg, 2006).…”
