Whole cell profiling and identification of galectin‐1 as a potential marker of renal cell carcinoma

Abstract: For most cancers, the patient's prognosis improves dramatically if the disease is detected at an early stage. Although advancements in imaging technology have improved early detection, many cancers remain undetected until it is too late for curative intervention. We have established, for the first time, expression difference mapping analysis of whole cell proteins from renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cell lines using ProteinChip technology. A total of 20 different RCC cell lines were cultured in vitro directly on P… Show more

“…Dihazi et al (2007) reported Gal-1 differential expression in RCC cells compared with normal kidney cell lines. More recently, we showed, using quantitative proteomics analysis, that Gal-1 had significant increased expression in metastatic and primary RCC tumors when compared with normal kidney tissues and represents a potential prognostic marker for RCC patients (Masui et al , 2013).…”

“…15,16 Previous studies have suggested that Gal-1 may serve as a potential marker for RCC. 17,18 However, the detailed molecular mechanisms connecting Gal-1 to RCC remain largely unknown. The present study examined whether Gal-1 contributed to functional implications and clinical relevance in kidney cancer pathogenesis.…”
