Whole body exposure to low frequency magnetic field: No provable effects on the cellular energetics of rat skeletal muscle

Abstract: On the basis of previous experience with biological effects of electromagnetic fields a potential effect of homogeneous sinusoidal magnetic field (50 Hz, 10 mT) on energy state of rat skeletal muscle was investigated. Two different total body exposures to magnetic field were selected: (1) repeated 1 hour exposure, 2 times a week for 3 months, and (2) acute 1.5 hour exposure (and the appropriate control groups). Important energy metabolites (adenosine triphosphate--ATP, creatine phosphate, creatine, lactate, py… Show more

“…Exposure to artificially generated electromagnetic (e.m.) fields is a common occurrence for a large number of individuals: its biological consequences, still largely unknown, are being studied in experimental animals [ 1 - 4 ] and in humans [ 5 ]. At present, the body functioning is generally formulated in terms of biomolecules and their interactions; the living state is described in terms of molecular biology.…”

“…In addition, the isometric contraction forces obtained by different stimulating frequencies (10, 20, 50 and 100 Hz) showed a significant linear increase in the tetanic contraction. On the other hand, Stefl et al (2006) investigated a potential effect of homogeneous sinusoidal MF (50 Hz, 10 mT) on bioenergetics (ATP, creatine phosphate, creatine, lactate, pyruvate and inorganic phosphate) of rat skeletal muscle and they reported that neither repeated exposure nor the acute exposure of rats to the sinusoidal MF has any important influence on the level of important energy metabolites in rat skeletal muscle.…”

“…The bio-resonance is the form of resonance that occurs at the level of cell membranes using electromagnetic fields at very low intensity and a specific frequency (cyclotron) which is able to influence and stimulate the metabolism of human cells. It regulates the ordered ionselective traffic between the internal and external environment of the cell and stimulates the activity of metal-active enzymes involved in many biological reactions [35][36][37][38].…”
