In Australia, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) seeks to ensure that disabled people can access the support they need to live an independent life. There is limited knowledge around the NDIS client experience of signing deaf people-people who use Auslan as their primary language. This article reports on a pilot study that explored signing deaf people's experiences when accessing the NDIS to obtain a service package. Signing deaf people were invited to join a focus group and share their experiences. While all participants indicated that their initial contact with the NDIS and its provision of essential information through Auslan was adequate, they believed that access was difficult when they needed more detail. Also, all participants noted that NDIS staff members' knowledge of signing deaf people's life experience was an area for development. Overall, signing deaf people's consumer experience of the NDIS did not appear to meet their expectations. Points of interest• In Australia, signing deaf people can choose to be part of the new support system for disabled people -the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). • Signing deaf people in this study liked the way the NDIS gave them information through their sign language, Auslan, however, when they wanted to get more detailed information -they could not find it. • NDIS staff could develop their knowledge of signing deaf people's life experience. Better staff knowledge can improve signing deaf people's NDIS experience. • The research shares signing deaf people's experiences of the NDIS and adds to future research and better knowledge.

Abstract:The theory of literature provides tools for interpreting language communication. A psychologist, when interpreting a communication -which is often a latent one -has no other alternative but to employ these tools (with the exception of non-verbal communication). Often, however, this stage of work is defined as "intuitive", which significantly limits the repeatability of the procedure and thus gives rise to reservations as to its scientific value. Review of certain literary theory devices, along with their possible applications, allows for naming these tools, selecting, and ordering the consecutive stages of communication analysis. In our opinion, such reviewing opens up the possibility for filling this gap in qualitative research analysis with specific tools and specific ways of using these tools in place of intuitiveness. Psycholog, dokonując interpretacji -często niejawnego komunikatu, nie ma innej możliwości niż posługiwanie się tymi narzędziami (wyłączając komunikację niewerbalną). Zwykle jednak ten etap pracy określany jest jako intuicyjny, co znacznie ogranicza powtarzalność procedury a tym samym budzi zastrzeżenia co do jej naukowości. Przegląd poszczególnych narzędzi teorii literatury oraz możliwości ich zastosowania pozwolił na nazwanie narzędzi, selekcję i uporządkowanie kolejnych etapów analizy wypowiedzi. Co, jak sądzimy, daje możliwość wypełnienia owej luki w analizach badań jakościowych konkretnymi narzędziami i sposobem ich użycia, zamiast intuicyjnością.

A dialogical research methodology based on Buber: intersubjectivity in the research interview

Buber's concepts of I‐It and I‐Thou are well known, yet his understandings of a dialogical process and dialogical knowing are less evident in the literature. This article briefly details a unique Buberian dialogical research methodology, devised for research into psychological and emotional abuse in families. Informed by Buber's premise that dialogue is the source of knowing, this methodology privileges the intersubjectivity between participant and researcher. It is operationalized in methods that highlight the dialogical process within the research interview, from which dialogical knowing may emerge. Analysis of the intersubjective process is based on the conceptualization of five poetic images that recur in Buber's work, as illustrated in the micro‐analysis contained in this article. It suggests that a Buberian methodology offers deeper and more nuanced understandings of the subjective experiences of vulnerable participants and of theoretical knowledge about a sensitive topic.
