Which research can support PD facilitators? Strategies for content-related PD research in the Three-Tetrahedron Model

Abstract: Given the challenges of scaling up content-related professional development (PD), the PD facilitators have gained increasing attention in PD research. In this mainly programmatic and structural article, we try to systematize existing research strategies which take into account the multifaceted and multi-level structure of PD research. We discuss the lifting strategy which draws upon structural analogies between the classroom and the PD level, the nesting strategy for research-based design, and the unpacking st… Show more

“…But, regarding the endeavor to "train to transmit or train to teach," there is a substantial and systematic difference between facilitators' and classroom teachers' approaches to new materials that have not yet been covered in existing conceptualizations of teachers' curriculum use (Brown, 2009;Davis et al, 2011, etc.). Here, the ambiguity of different forms of knowledge and their relationship to practice becomes apparent and needs to be unpacked in more detail (Prediger et al, 2019).…”

“…The empirical study was situated in the research context of the Deutsches Zentrum für Lehrerbildung Mathematik (DZLM; the German Center for Mathematics Teacher Education), which combines the personal and the material strategy for reaching about 700-1000 mathematics facilitators in Germany (Prediger et al, 2019;Roesken-Winter et al, 2015). By offering PD materials as OER in the material strategy, the DZLM also intends to reach not only new facilitators.…”

“…For example, professional development initiatives and the professional development resources used in initiatives are obviously interrelated. Similarly, the approach taken to classroom teaching, the PD designed to support it, and the accompanying classroom materials are interdependent (e.g., Prediger, Rösken-Winter, & Leuders, 2019). Further, research that is at the service of practice and both classroom materials and professional development designed on the basis of such research are interlinked.…”

“…Методика дослідження побудована на базі структурно-логічного конструювання, системних досліджень, синергетичного аналізу (Prediger, 2019). Визначення проблеми дослідження та шляхів її розв'язання базується на комплексному підході до опрацювання наукового доробку вітчизняних і зарубіжних вчених, історичного досвіду розвитку сільських територій, нормативно-правових актів та авторських розробок.…”
