Wheelchair for physically disabled people with voice, ultrasonic and infrared sensor control

Abstract: Abstract. This paper describes a wheelchair for physically disabled people developed within the UMIDAM I Project. A dependent-user recognition voice system and ultrasonic and infrared sensor systems has been integrated in this wheelchair. In this way we have obtained a wheelchair which can be driven with using voice commands and with the possibility of avoiding obstacles and downstairs or hole detection. The wheelchair has also been developed to allow autonomous driving (for example, following walls). The proj… Show more

“…Also thanks to the fact that increasingly faster computers have become accessible for simulation and emulation of the new components to a growing number of users [6]- [8]. In recent work different techniques were introduced to improve the command of an electric wheelchair such as a computer and speech recognition techniques namely: DTW (Dynamic Time Warping) Crossing Zero and HMM (Hidden Markov Model) [1] and [2]. However voice-command encountered some problems primarily due to:…”
