What is the value of a Premier League football club to a regional economy?

Abstract: Research question: This paper focuses on estimating the net regional economic impact of a UK Premier League football club. The drivers of local economic effects, factors constraining impacts, and the return on public investment for peripheral regions are considered.

“…Community stadia are therefore moderate-sized stadia and expectations of what they can deliver need to be adjusted accordingly, particularly as many stadia proponents have over-promised the socio-economic benefits of new stadia (Baade, 1996; Coates, 2007; Siegfried and Zimbalist, 2006).
