What are the Most Widely Used and Effective Attack Coverage Systems in Men’s Volleyball?

Abstract: In volleyball, attack coverage is one of the play actions most neglected in coaching and research. The purpose of this study was to find out which attack coverage systems are used by high-level men’s teams in different game situations and the characteristics of the most effective systems. We analysed 15 matches from the 2010 Men’s Pan-American Volleyball Cup, with a total of 1,415 coverage actions. Chi-square tests for independence, adjusted residuals analysis and calculations of standardised mean difference w… Show more

“…(Yacoub Abdel-Baqi -Hamza Fadel, 2020) Allows the player in the blocking operation to move the arms to the side towards the ball in order to intercept its movement, and the duration of the kinetic prediction depends on the time between striking the ball from the attacking player until it reaches the blocker player (Kuan et al, 2018). There was also a correlation between the time of the visual scene and the variable of the distance between the two hands, and this is because the player increases that distance if he notices that the attacking player is hitting the ball to the sides of the blocking and that the change is made by the attacking player through the movement of the arm away from The longitudinal axis of the body of the hitting player, and therefore increasing the distance between the hands is effective while maintaining the tension in the fingers so that the ball does not slacken and the ball crosses it, so coaches usually recommend players to maintain the tensile strength in the fingers of the hands, and in general the volleyball game is one of the games that need to be Great timing and correct prediction (Raúl Hileno et al, 2018).…”

“…In today's volleyball, attack has become so remarkable that Sato et al developed a block machine for perfecting this skill, and tested its validity (Sato et al, 2017). During the attack, several coverage systems are used for getting the blocked balls into the game again (Hileno, Alcaraz, Busca, Salas, & Camerino, 2018). In another study, Costa et al indicated that efficiency of attack could change depending upon the double and triple block (Costa et al, 2014).…”

“…The statistically significant decrease in setting actions in KII and digs from the opponent's block in KIV could also be related to higher contextual interferences of these complexes, or changes in coverage systems performed in different game phases (in KIV). Structure and performance of coverage systems vary according to the game phase (Hileno et al, 2018).…”
