Wear of rotary plows operating in a tropical clay loam soil

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The wear resistance of rotary plows operating in a clay loam soil was studied. The degree of damage caused to the soil and the amount of mass lost by the tools were determined in order to establish correlations between the physical properties of the soil and the wear mechanisms acting on the tribosystem. Field tests were carried out in 12 plots and a randomized experimental design with 4 levels, 3 replicas per level and 2 passes per plot was applied. The levels relate to the tillage implements employe… Show more

“…Apart from micro-cutting, micro-ploughing has a large share in the wear in concise soils, which occurs with much higher intensity than in light soils. The phenomena of wear of the surface layer in concise soils quite well describes the “two-body abrasion” model [6,8,11]. Therefore, in all soil masses the mechanical wear patterns characteristic of abrasive wear were dominant.…”

“…Depending on the type of an operating part, including the impact of the pressure exerted by the abrasive material, chemical processes associated with the impact of soil environment can occur as well [4,5]. In order to define and describe the wear phenomenon in addition to experimental testing, many mathematical models enabling the forecasting of the service life of parts were generated [1,6]. The operating parts of the tools processing an abrasive soil mass is characterised by high resistance to both wear and impact strength.…”

“… [ 68 ] Clay loam The effective wear rate of the rotary tiller and rotary harrow tool was similar to and higher than that of the small power rotary tiller, which showed the best wear resistance in field tests. [ 21 ] Sandy loam Clay The wear of shears working on sandy loam soil was about 37% greater than on loam soil. [ 49 ] …”

“…Співвідношення між цими процесами визначають інтенсивність абразивного зношування. В результаті раніше проведених досліджень [1,2,3,4,5] встановлено, що при зношуванні робочих органів ґрунтообробних машин механічні процеси на поверхні тертя переважають над іншими і визначають механізм та інтенсивність зношування. Вибір матеріалу робочих органів ґрунтообробних машин повинен ґрунтуватися на властивостях ґрунтового середовища, що будуть визначати механізм абразивного зношування [6].…”
