In this paper, a novel scheduling scheme for the Fourth Generation (4G)-Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) network is proposed to ensure that end to end traffic transaction is provisioned seamlessly. The scheduling scheme is divided into two stages; in stage one, traffic is separated into Actual Time Traffic (ATT) and Non-Actual-Time Traffic (NATT), while in stage two, complex queuing strategy is performed. In stage one, Class-Based Queuing (CBQ) and Deficit Round Robin (DRR) are used for NATT and ATT applications, respectively to separate and forward traffic themselves according to source requirements. Whereas in the stage, two Control Priority Queuing (CPQ) is used to assign each class the appropriate priority level. Evaluation of the performance of the integrated network was done according to several metrics such as end-to-end delay, jitter, packet loss, and network’s throughput. Results demonstrate major improvements for AT services with minor degradation on NAT applications after implementing the new scheduling scheme.

Remotely monitoring a patient's condition is a serious issue and must be addressed. Remote health monitoring systems (RHMS) in telemedicine refers to resources, strategies, methods and installations that enable doctors or other medical professionals to work remotely to consult, diagnose and treat patients. The goal of RHMS is to provide timely medical services at remote areas through telecommunication technologies. Through major advancements in technology, particularly in wireless networking, cloud computing and data storage, RHMS is becoming a feasible aspect of modern medicine. RHMS for the prioritisation of patients with multiple chronic diseases (MCDs) plays an important role in sustainably providing high-quality healthcare services. Further investigations are required to highlight the limitations of the prioritisation of patients with MCDs over a telemedicine environment. This study introduces a comprehensive and inclusive review on the prioritisation of patients with MCDs in telemedicine applications. Furthermore, it presents the challenges and open issues regarding patient prioritisation in telemedicine. The findings of this study are as follows: (1) The limitations and problems of existing patients' prioritisation with MCDs are presented and emphasised. (2) Based on the analysis of the academic literature, an accurate solution for remote prioritisation in a large scale of patients with MCDs was not presented. (3) There is an essential need to produce a new multiple-criteria decisionmaking theory to address the current problems in the prioritisation of patients with MCDs.

Wireless body area network is a type of wireless sensor network that enables efficient healthcare system. To minimize frequent sensor replacement due to resource restrictions, it is necessary to improve energy efficiency in wireless body area network. This article deals with energy efficiency and quality-of-service improvement together in novel wireless body area network architecture. A novel wireless body area network architecture is designed with dual sink nodes in order to minimize delay and energy consumption. A novel insistence-aware medium access control protocol which is aware of criticality of sensed data is presented in the proposed wireless body area network. Prior knowledge-based weighted routing algorithm is responsible to select optimal route for data transmission. In prior knowledge-based weighted routing, weight value is computed by considering significant metrics such as residual energy, link stability, distance, and delay in order to improve energy efficiency and quality of service in the network. Energy consumption is further minimized by incorporating graph-based sleep scheduling algorithm. In graph-based sleep scheduling, criticality of sensor node is also considered as major metric. In coordinator, split and map-based neural network classifier is involved to perform packet classification. After classification, packets are assigned to corresponding sink node according to packet type. Then, throughput and delay metrics are improved by frame aggregation process which is involved in sink node. Extensive simulation in OMNeT + + shows better performance in network lifetime, throughput, residual energy, dropped packets, and delay.
