Identity manipulation is considered a serious security issue that has been enlarged with the spread of automated systems that could be accessed either locally or remotely. Availability, integrity, and confidentiality represent the basic requirements that should be granted for successful authentication systems. Personality verification has taken multiple forms depending on different possession types. They are divided into knowledge based, token based, and biometric based authentication. The permanent ownership to the human being has increased the chances of deploying biometrics based authentication in highly secure systems. It includes capturing the biological traits, which are physiological or behavioral, extracting the important features and comparing them to the previously stored features that belong to the claimed user. Various kinds of attacks aim to take down the basic requirements at multiple points. This paper describes different types of authentication along with their vulnerable points and threatening attacks. Then it provides more details about the biometric system structure as well as examples of distinguishing biological characteristics, organized by their locations. It shows the performance results of various biometric systems along with the deployed algorithms for different components.

Specific emitter identification (SEI) techniques are often used in civilian and military spectrum-management operations, and they are also applied to support the security and authentication of wireless communication. In this letter, a new SEI method based on the natural measure of the one-dimensional component of the chaotic system is proposed. We find that the natural measures of the one-dimensional components of higher dimensional systems exist and that they are quite diverse for different systems. Based on this principle, the natural measure is used as an RF fingerprint in this letter. The natural measure can solve the problems caused by a small amount of data and a low sample rate. The Kullback-Leibler divergence is used to quantify the difference between the natural measures obtained from diverse emitters and classify them. The data obtained from real application are exploited to test the validity of the proposed method. Experimental results show that the proposed method is not only easy to operate, but also quite effective, even though the amount of data is small and the sample rate is low.

Abstract:The mitigation of NLOS (non-line-of-sight) propagation conditions is one of main challenges in wireless signals based indoor localization. When RFID localization technology is applied in applications, RSS fluctuates frequently due to the shade and multipath effect of RF signal, which could result in localization inaccuracy. In particularly, when tags carriers are walking in LOS (line-of-sight) and NLOS hybrid environment, great attenuation of RSS will happen, which would result in great location deviation. The paper proposes an IMU-assisted (Inertial Measurement Unit) RFID based indoor localization in LOS/NLOS hybrid environment. The proposed method includes three improvements over previous RSS based positioning methods: IMU aided RSS filtering, IMU aided LOS/NLOS distinguishing and IMU aided LOS/NLOS environment switching. Also, CRLB (Cramér-Rao Low Bound) is calculated to prove theoretically that indoor positioning accuracy for proposed method in LOS/NLOS mixed environment is higher than position precision of only use RSS information. Simulation and experiments are conducted to show that proposed method can reduce the mean positioning error to around 3 meters without site survey.
