Wavelength-tunable dissipative pulses from Yb-doped fiber laser with Sagnac filter

Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate a wavelength-tunable passively mode-locked Yb-doped all-normal-dispersion fiber laser by exploiting a high-birefringence Sagnac fiber loop as a flexible filter. The wavelength of pulses is controlled by properly rotating the polarization controllers in a Sagnac loop. The spectrum of output pulses could be shifted by up to 15 nm at a repetition rate of 18 MHz. Output power of more than 43 mW at pulse durations below 11.4 ps is achieved at the central wavelength of 1035 nm. The puls… Show more

“…Each figure contains six different values of polarization angle based on plates of PC1 and PC2. Figure 2(a) shows the three wavelength peaks when the PC1 and PC2 states at θ 11 = 0.415π, θ 12 = 0.02π, θ 13 In Figure 3, several transmission spectra from 1544nm to 1556nm are plotted with the condition of Figure 3 Figure 3(a) gives the transmission spectrum for L 1 < L 2 , (in this case L 1 = 5m and L 2 = 10m). Each channel consists of multiple wavelength peaks and minimum wavelength interval was observed.…”

“…The comb filter which was based on the Sagnac loop filter (SLF) had been used extensively in the design of MWFL [12][13][14]. SLF is popular to be used for various applications due to its simple structure and output variability which can simply be done by varying the PC and PMF parameter [15][16][17].…”

“…Multi-wavelength and wavelength-tunable mode-locked fiber lasers have potential applications in the fields of optical fiber sensing, optics communications, and optical measurement instruments [ 1 , 2 ]. Various approaches have been exploited to achieve multi-wavelength by inserting several filters either into actively or passively mode-locked fiber laser cavity as wavelength selection devices, such as a birefringent filter, Mach–Zehnder interferometer, fiber Bragg grating, Sagnac loop filter, long-period grating, and fiber filter.…”

“…In 2008, Tu et al, used a Mach–Zehnder interferometer to obtain stable eight lasing wavelengths in Yb-doped fiber laser [ 1 ]. In 2016, Hou et al, exploited a Sagnac loop to achieve wavelength-tunable passively mode-locked fiber laser [ 2 ]. For decades, multi-solitons have attracted significant attention due to their potential applications in micro-machining, high-resolution range-finding, geological exploration, and so on.…”

“…Due to the demand for strong spectral filtering effects [6], the optical filters including Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) [7][8][9], Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) [9][10], chirped fiber gratings [11], Sagnac loop filter [12][13] and fiber-based birefringent filter [14], have become the priority for the achievement of wavelength switching in YDFL. Among them, the fiber-based birefringent filter is highly J o u r n a l P r e -p r o o f appreciable in wavelength switchable lasers due to its simple structure and flexibility without adding complexity to the laser cavity.…”
