O meloeiro tem reconhecida importância sócio-econômica no Nordeste do Brasil, porém a falta ou excesso de água limita o seu cultivo. Para tanto, é necessário determinar a quantidade ideal para a obtenção do máximo rendimento. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a eficiência fotoquímica e o rendimento do meloeiro Cantaloupe sob diferentes lâminas de irrigação. O trabalho foi conduzido em condições de campo, adotando-se o delineamento em blocos ao acaso com 4 tratamentos [(60; 80; 100 e 120% da ETo (mm dia -¹)] que corresponderam aos volumes de água acumulados de 1250, 1680, 2110 e 2540 m 3 ciclo -¹, respectivamente; e 6 repetições com 10 plantas úteis por parcela. Analisaram-se as variáveis: fluorescência da clorofila a, rendimento e atributos físico-químicos dos frutos. A lâmina de água de 80% da ETo promoveu maior eficiência do fotossistema II. Houve menor produção de frutos da Classe I na lâmina superior a 100% da ETo; a incidência de frutos das Classes II e III cresceu linearmente com o aumento das lâminas de água. O tamanho dos frutos foi reduzido com irrigações superiores a 100% da ETo; no entanto, o teor de açúcar foi satisfatório até irrigações com 80% da ETo. Lâminas de água baseadas em 100% da ETo proporcionam os melhores índices fisiológicos e incrementos nas variáveis de produção. A B S T R A C TThe objective of this study was to analyze technically and economically the irrigated 'Gália' melon (Hybrid Nectar), cultivated in greenhouse with and without using plastic mulch covering on the soil. Simultaneously, two experiments were conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD), in which melon plants were submitted to five water availability levels, defined by 50, 75, 100, 125, and 150% of crop evapotranspiration, with four replicates. The difference between experiments were only about the soil covering with plastic mulch: with (CC) or without (SC) plastic mulch. The economically optimal irrigation depths were 208.83 and 186.88 mm, resulting in yields of 50.85 and 44.51 t ha -1 for the experiments with and without mulching, respectively. The results showing the economically optimal irrigation depths were very close to those that produced the highest yield.Análise econômica da irrigação do meloeiro Gália em ambiente protegido com e sem mulching R E S U M O O objetivo do trabalho foi analisar, técnica e economicamente, a cultura do meloeiro rendilhado cultivado em ambiente protegido. Foram realizados simultaneamente dois experimentos utilizando-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado (DIC) cujas plantas do melão tipo Gália foram submetidas a cinco lâminas de irrigação definidas por 50, 75, 100, 125 e 150%, da evapotranspiração da cultura, com quatro repetições. Os experimentos se diferenciaram apenas pelo não uso (SC) ou uso (CC) de cobertura plástica do solo (mulching). As lâminas de água ótimas economicamente foram 208,83 e 186,88 mm, que resultaram nas produtividades de 50,85 e 44,51 t ha -1 para os experimentos SC e CC, respectivamente. Os resultados permitiram concluir que as lâminas ótimas econômicas ficaram bastante próximas daquelas que produziram as maiores produções físicas, para ambos os experimentos. ABSTRACT:The study aimed to evaluate the "Gália" melons productive characteristics grown in greenhouse under different irrigation levels, and conducted with and without soil cover by plastic mulching. Experiments I (WC) and II (WtC) were conducted simultaneously in a protected environment, using a completely randomized design (CRD), where plants of Gália melons (Hybrid Nectar cv.) received five levels of water depth defined by 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150% of evapotranspiration (water requirement), with four replications, differing only by utilization (WC) or not (WtC) of plastic mulching. The results showed that the variables productivity, average weight, length and diameter of the fruits were affected by different levels of water replacement in the soil regardless the use or not of the soil cover. The largest reductions in productivity 46.32 and 32.03% were observed for the treatment of 50%, compared to the treatment of 100% for experiments I (WtC) and II (WC), respectively.
