This research aimed to design a scale for measuring pre-service teachers’ environmental consciousness. A systematic literature review was carried out to develop initial items for measuring pre-service teachers’ environmental consciousness. A total of 64 items were finalized for the scale under five parts, with seventeen items under knowledge, attitude, pedagogies, beliefs, and practices of pre-service teachers regarding environmental consciousness. Through a survey, this scale was administered to 362 pre-service teachers from public sector universities offering teacher education programs in Punjab. The validity of the scale is ensured through expert opinion, and reliability (inter-item consistency) is confirmed through Cronbach’s alpha test. The reliability value was found to be .863 for items on the scale. Validity and reliability were statistically tested by conducting exploratory factor analysis. Values of factor loading range from a maximum of .800 to .501. After exploratory factor analysis, a total of 23 items were removed, and the final scale consisted of 41 items. The final scale indicates appropriate reliability and validity regarding five factors related to environmental consciousness. Theoretically, this scale contributes significantly to identifying and measuring the environmental consciousness of pre-service teachers. The scale for environmental consciousness of pre-service teachers could be useful for understanding the environment and also helpful in investigating relation relationship among different variables regarding environmental consciousness.

The 2030 agenda sets the stage for global collaboration to accomplish prosperity, peace and partnership for all people and our planet. The complexity of interrelationships between the sustainable development goals is amplified in shared water basins where collaboration between different actors from different sectors and nations is needed. This study explores the synergies and trade-offs between the cooperation in shared water management and 10 out of 17 sustainable development goals. An expert-driven literature search was conducted to map the interlinkages between the shared water management and each target under the selected SDGs. A total of 62 targets were studied in this explorative mapping exercise. Results show that the cooperation in shared water management is critical not only for the sustainable management of the water resources but also has the potential to accelerate the achievement of about 50% of the SDGs. The impact is higher (71%) on the resource-related SDGs such as SDG2, 6 and 7 while it is lower (33%) in economic-related SDGs such as 10 and 12.

Managing water resources to meet current social, economic, and environmental needs without compromising the ability to meet those needs in the future, requires water managers to look beyond jurisdictional boundaries and their immediate supply operations, protect shared water and marine environments, resources and ecosystems from pollution and over-abstraction and deliver structural changes and resilient solutions to make the provision of water services sustainable. With a plethora of system tools increasingly available to support the sustainability transformation of water systems, sorting through their breadth and diversity to determine what is useful and what is not can be challenging. From a selection of 40 popular system tools grouped in terms of how they function, we review those most commonly used in water management through 35 water-related studies from the literature. Findings demonstrate that system tools are not a substitute for systems thinking and applying them alone does not qualify the development of systemic solutions. Systems thinking offers a powerful approach to first improving collective understanding of sustainability challenges related to water and then, in collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders and the public, defining desired goals for water management and working together to make them a reality. System tools in that context can play an important role in facilitating the process and here we propose an overarching framework of how to select and apply available tools to facilitate a holistic, integrated, and interdisciplinary systems approach for water management and wider urban sustainability transitions.
