Water-resistant HKUST-1 functionalized with polydimethylsiloxane for efficient rubidium ion capture

Abstract: A thin hydrophobic layer of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was successfully coated onto HKUST-1 by a facile chemical vapor deposition (CVD) approach, which enables excellent Rb(i) capture in water.

“…One of the most studied and representative cases, Cu-BTC [Cu 3 (BTC) 2 , BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate] also denoted as HKUST-1 or MOF-199, is a widely focused and developed metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). 1,2 Thanks to the advantages of tunable options, organic functionality, high thermal and mechanical stability, open metal sites in the skeleton, large pore sizes, high surface areas, and easy surface modification, Cu-BTC exhibited a very promising candidate for adsorptive removal of toxic compounds (e.g. methylene blue (MB)) from effluent wastewaters.…”

“…In our previous work, 7 Cu-BTC-(n)Br was synthesized using doped bromine groups onto Cu-BTC, exhibiting an extraordinary water-resistant ability for sulfur capture in the presence of moisture. Another case developed by our group is the PDMS@Cu-BTC, 2 which exhibited good water-resistance and adsorption performance for Rb + from aqueous solutions. Some similar approaches such as doped methyl modification, 2 alkyl long chains, 8 and carbon materials 9 were also reported in the literature.…”

“…In addition, to describe the uptake of Rb(I) accurately, the Langmuir adsorption process can be classified by a separation factor, R L , represented by eq where K L shows the Langmuir constant related to the energy of adsorption; C 0 reflects the initial concentration; R L = 0, R L < 1, R L > 1, and R L = 1 show the irreversible adsorption isotherms, favorable and unfavorable adsorption, as well as the linear adsorption isotherms, respectively. The results calculated by eq showed that in the tested HNO 3 medium the R L value was in the range of 0–1, revealing favorable adsorption of Rb(I) onto iPCalixC5X.…”

“…The precursors of Cu-containing material in this ternary heterojunction MOF is HKUST-1 MOF, with the periodic distribution of Cu nodes and carbon-rich organic ligand attributes for the candidacy of HKUST-1. Via implementation of apt sulfidation and calcination, C-coated Cu 2-x S (C-Cu 2-x S) tubes with the hollow structure are collected, followed by mixing of C-Cu 2-x S with g-C 3 N 4 under the hydrothermal condition to acquire C-Cu 2-x S@g-C 3 N 4 [221,222]. Many techniques have been used to characterize the topology, morphology, stability, and performance.…”
