Water quality assessment of Lugu Lake based on Nemerow pollution index method

Abstract: In this paper, three monitoring sections were set up in Lugu Lake, and water samples were collected in 2019, 2020, and 2021 for the determination of physical and chemical properties such as permanganate index, chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) and so on. By using the single factor pollution index method and the Nemerow pollution index method, the water quality of three monitoring sections and the whole Lugu Lake was assessed, and the temporal and spatial changes of water quality were ana… Show more

“…As no single water quality parameter can provide a sufficiently comprehensive overall measure of water quality, Nemerow's Pollution Index (NPI) was used to assess the overall degree to which water quality in each of the selected sub-catchments had been impacted by surrounding LULC (Nemerow, 1991). The NPI offers a relatively simple, intuitive, and robust method for quantifying the aggregate influence of multiple parameters on overall water quality and has been successfully used in several studies (Xu et al, 2010;Brady et al, 2015;Effendi, 2016;Wang et al, 2017;Rahmatillah & Ramli, 2021;Sarhat et al, 2022;Su et al, 2022). As with most water quality indices (WQIs), the NPI converts the observed measurements of the relevant parameters into standardised sub-index (SI) scores.…”

“…In the formula, P i represents the single-factor evaluation index; C i represents the measured content of the i-th environmental indicator quantity; S i represents the evaluation standard of the environmental indicator quantity. P Z represents the Nemero comprehensive index; P i represents the number of evaluation indexes; P max represents the maximum value of the single-factor evaluation index [36][37][38].…”
