Water quality analysis using the CCME-WQI method with time series analysis in a water supply reservoir

Abstract: The quality of the drinking water source reservoirs has always been a research hotspot. However, few studies focused on the water quality of reservoirs over a relatively long period with time series analysis. In this paper, based on water quality and hydrological data from 2010 to 2020, considering 8 water quality parameters, CCME-WQI with time series analysis was used to explore the interannual and seasonal changes in water quality in the Weishui Reservoir. Furthermore, the main factors affecting water qualit… Show more

“…CCME-WQI is the most sensitive water quality indexation method that responds to water quality dynamics with few or many test parameters, both with and without bacteriological parameters [9] The minimum number of parameters taken into account is four, and the number of monitoring carried out is a minimum of four times, but the decision regarding parameter choice rests with the user [10]. The use of CCME-WQI includes analyzing changes in water quality in the Weishui reservoir [11], and determining the physical carrying capacity for aquaculture in Lake Volta [12]. The CCME-WQI equations are:…”

“…Groundwater pollution poses a significant challenge to ensuring the quality and sustainability of water resources in semi-arid regions, where it is the primary source of water for both drinking and irrigation purposes [1][2][3][4]. The scarcity and pollution of surface water bodies make groundwater a vital component of securing water supply safety [5][6][7].…”

“…Different modifications of WQI have been introduced by the researchers, and comparisons of the different modifications exist in the scientific literature [21,22]. The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) WQI is currently one of the most widely used, not only in all the provinces of Canada but in many countries worldwide [23][24][25][26], as it is one of the main recommended indices for assessing the quality of drinking water by the United Nations Environment Programme Global Environment Monitoring System (GEMS)/Water Programme [27]. Although there are many WQIs available worldwide, none is universally accepted due to the difference in climate and land use.…”
