Water‐compatible molecularly imprinted polymer as a sorbent for the selective extraction and purification of adefovir from human serum and urine

Abstract: A molecularly imprinted polymer has been synthesized to specifically extract adefovir, an antiviral drug, from serum and urine by dispersive solid-phase extraction before high-performance liquid chromatography with UV analysis. The imprinted polymers were prepared by bulk polymerization by a noncovalent imprinting method that involved the use of adefovir (template molecule) and functional monomer (methacrylic acid) complex prior to polymerization, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linker, and chloroform … Show more

“…Generally, the samples are pretreated using liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) or solid-phase extraction (SPE). SPE is the currently dominating technique for the extraction of a target compound from different samples including food, environment, and pharmaceutical and biological samples [12] , [13] , [14] . Compared with LLE, SPE is simple and fast, and less solvent consumption.…”

“…333 Hence, the optimized MISPE method should be based on the properties of MIPs, the interaction between MIPs and analytes, and the appropriate solvents used in the extraction procedure. Owing to the high selectivity of MIPs for the template molecule and its structural analogues, MISPE methods have already been applied in environmental, 334- 350 and matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD).…”

“…Due to their excellent molecular recognition capability and chemical and mechanical stability, MIPs are more and more investigated for extraction and determination of compounds in various samples with different techniques . Recently, members of our research group applied MIPs as off‐line SPE where the MIP is equilibrated with sample for some important medicinal molecules in pharmaceuticals and biological fluids and on‐line extractions where the MIPs are filled into columns or cartridges . With the aim of using the benefits of membrane as extraction media, we also used MIPs for extraction of hippuric acid with MIP polysulfone membrane and l ‐tyrosine as a lung cancer biomarker with an MIP‐modified polysulfone membrane .…”
