Washing of Fabrics

Abstract

Effects of temperature, stirring and fabric thickness on washing out caustic soda in cotton fabrics were experimentally studied and theoretically analyzed by the diffusion equation assuming fabric or yarns as homogeneous substance.Experiment agreed well with the theory, and the reason why hitherto the experiment did not coincide with the theory was discussed. It was found that the contradiction is due to the fact the diffusion coefficient of washed material in fibers differs largely from that in water.So, we proposed the following theoretical equation: C=T1-at+T2-Rt where C: mean concentration of washed material in a fabric, t : washing time, T1, T2, a, iS : constants which depend on such factors as initail conditions, diffusion coefficient, fabric properties and washing process.
