In this paper, the relations between science and technology, intervention and representation, the natural and the artificial are analysed on the background of the formation of modern science in the sixteenth century. Due to the fact that technique has been essential for modern science from its early beginning, modern science is characterised by a hybridisation of knowledge and intervention. The manipulation of nature in order to measure its properties has steadily increased until artificial things have been produced, such as laser beams, chemical compounds, elementary particles. Furthermore, the structural bracing of natural science, technological development, and industrial exploitation of nature go also back to the foundation of modern science. In order to strengthen the debate on technoscience against this background, the specific characteristics of technoscientific objects have to be clarified as have the specific characteristics of the social organisation of technoscience and its performance.

The following analysis aims to illustrate how, over the course of time, different meanings have become associated with the term transcendence. The article proposes distinguishing between the ontological meaning (i.e. the realm of transcendence) and the anthropological or epistemic use (i.e. the act or process of transcending, experientiaUy and conceptually). Presenting examples from sociology (Thomas Luckmann) and psychology (Abraham H. Maslow) it will be illustrated that lack of discrimination may support or even foster an ontological reductionism which impedes adequate differentiation between humanistic (secular) and spiritual/religious ways to constitute values and meaning. A structural epistemological approach is described and recommended, as a respectful reconstruction of various ontological and metaphysical positions and background convictions in personal world-views.

An Theorien der Kommunikation mangelt es nicht, obwohl die wissenschaftliche Beschäftigung damit noch recht jung ist. Sie stammen von Kommunikationswissenschaftlern und -psychologen, Volkswirten und Logistikern oder Informatikern und Politikwissenschaftlern. Innerhalb des weiten Feldes der Kommunikationsforschung gibt es jedoch eine Trennlinie -die zwischen sprachphilosophischen und soziologischen Theorien. Die Theorie des "Inferentialismus" von Robert B. Brandom und sein Modell der "deontischen Kontoführung" zeigen, wie man die Trennung zwischen Sprachphilosophie und Soziologie überwinden kann. Darüber hinaus ermöglicht der Inferentialismus eine neue Theorie der strategischen Kommunikation zwischen Unternehmen und Konsumenten. Image und Reputation eines Unternehmens können dadurch als normative Status beziehungsweise normative Einstellungen der Rezipienten von Kommunikationsakten verstanden und gezielter in die Planung der Unternehmenskommunikation integriert werden.
