VuWiki: An Ontology-Based Semantic Wiki for Vulnerability Assessments

Abstract: Three decades of vulnerability research have generated a complex and growing body of knowledge. The concept of vulnerability, as well as its implementation in vulnerability assessments, is used in various disciplines and contexts. Correspondingly, a multitude of ideas and frameworks about how to conceptualize and measure vulnerability exists. To provide a structured representation of vulnerability, we have set up an ontology-based semantic wiki for reviewing and representing vulnerability assessments (www.vuwi… Show more

“…Moreover, there can be cascading interaction between vulnerability drivers with different spatial and/or temporal scopes (Khazai et al 2014). In case of hybrid events where there is more than one vulnerability driver or there is a set of interconnected risks facing food systems, there may be interdependency between, for example, poor governance and climate change impact.…”

“…Overall, in vulnerability research, it is important to address different factors of vulnerability and their interplay, such as linkages between exposure, coping capacity and adaptive capacity (Smit and Wandel, 2016;Birkmann, 2013, 26). Khazai et al (2014) use the term "driver" as an abstract term to answer the basic question:…”

“…Domain-specific ontologies may be latched onto these top level ontologies, but usually are used as stand-alone products. There is less research on ontologies and SESs, but see Khazai et al (2014) and Kumazawa et al (2014).…”
