Vulnerability analysis in Complex Networks under a Flood Risk Reduction point of view

Abstract: Abstract. The measurement and mapping of transportation network vulnerability constitute subjects of global interest. During a flood, some elements of a transportation network can be reached, causing damages directly (to people, vehicles and roads/streets) and indirect damages (services) with great economic impacts. The Complex Networks approach may offer a valuable perspective considering one type of vulnerability especially related to Disaster Risk Reduction on critical infrastructures: the topological vulne… Show more

“…For example, Balijepalli et al [30] examine the vulnerability of urban road networks in maintaining connectivity. In another study, Santos et al [31] explore the vulnerability of roads in mitigating the impact of floods from the perspective of network efficiency. These studies provide options for flood vulnerability assessment based on different perspectives.…”

“…Our analysis offers tools for decision support in multiple scenarios like containment of the ongoing epidemiological spreading [8,9], the detection of vulnerable areas for disasters [10,11], or cities whose importance in mobility is vital for the transit of people and supplies. In the former case, there is also a trade-off between interrupting the spread through isolation and losing a crucial route.…”
