These results suggest that there is a continuous baseline traffic in primary trigeminovascular fibres and that CSD does not act to increase this traffic by a peripheral action alone - rather, it must produce some of its effect by a mechanism intrinsic to the central nervous system. Thus the pain of migraine may not always be the result of peripheral sensory stimulation, but may also arise by a central mechanism.

ÖZDiş hekimliğinde periferik sinir yaralanmaları, rutin işlemler sırasında, cerrahi uygulamalarda veya travma sonucunda sıklıkla karşılaşılan olgulardır. Sinirin yapısı ve sinir hasarı mekanizmaları konusunda bilgi sahibi olmak, doğru teşhis ve tedavi için oldukça önemlidir. Sinir yaralanmalarının tedavisi, temel olarak medikal tedavi ve cerrahi tedavi olarak ikiye ayrılır. Medikal tedavinin sonuç vermediği hastalarda, muhtemel cerrahi tedavi için seçenek ve sonuçlarını bilmek, bu kritik komplikasyonda, doğru zamanlama ve uygulama açısından büyük önem arz etmektedir. Bu derlemenin amacı; diş hekimliği klinik uygulamalarında karşılaşıla-bilecek periferik sinir yaralanmaları sebeplerini hatırlamak ve mevcut kitap bilgileri ile güncel literatür bilgilerini harmanlayarak bu önemli komplikasyon hakkında bilgi sahibi olmaktır. Anahtar kelimeler: diş hekimliği; medikal tedavi; periferik sinir yaralanması; sinir cerrahisi GĠRĠġSinir sistemi iç ve dış ortamda oluşan değişik-liklere ani yanıtın oluşturulduğu sistemdir. Management of nerve injury is basically divided in two as medical and surgical treatment. It has a great importance to be aware of surgical treatment options and their possible results for correct timing and treatment in patients who do not respond to medical therapy. The purpose of this review is to to have information about peripheral nerve injuries and recent treatment approaches in clinical dental practice combining the book information and current literature. Endonöriyum ise sinir liflerini çevreleyen gevşek bağ dokusu olup, içerisinde aksonlar, Schwann hücreleri, kollajen lifler, fibroblastlar, kapiller damarlar ve az sayıda mast hücresi ile makrofajlar vardır. Background Detecting behaviors related to orofacial pain in rodent models often relies on subjective investigator grades or methods that place the animal in a stressful environment. In this study, an operant-based behavioral assay is presented for the assessment of orofacial tactile sensitivity in the rat. New Methods In the testing chamber, rats are provided access to a sweetened condensed milk bottle; however, a 360° array of stainless steel wire loops impedes access. To receive the reward, an animal must engage the wires across the orofacial region. Contact with the bottle triggers a motor, requiring the animal to accept increasing pressure on the face during the test. To evaluate this approach, tolerated bottle distance was measured for 10 hairless Sprague-Dawley rats at baseline and 30 minutes after application of capsaicin cream (0.1%) to the face. The experiment was repeated to evaluate the ability of morphine to reverse this effect. Results The application of capsaicin cream reduced tolerated bottle distance measures relative to baseline (p<0.05). As long as morphine did not cause reduced participation due to sedation, subcutaneous morphine dosing reduced the effects of capsaicin (p<0.001). Comparison with Existing Method For behavioral tests, experimenters often make subjective decisions of an animal’s response. Operant methods can reduce these effects by measuring an animal’s selection in a reward-conflict decision. Herein, a method to measure orofacial sensitivity is presented using an operant system. Conclusions This operant device allows for consistent measurement of heightened tactile sensitivity in the orofacial regions of the rat.
