Voltammetric determination of paracetamol in tablet formulation using Fe (III) doped zeolite-graphite composite modified GCE

Abstract: Although paracetamol is known to have excellent safety profile at recommended therapeutic doses, health effects are also reported at acute overdoses. A sensitive and selective voltammetric method using Fe(III) encapsulated zeolite/graphite composite modified glassy carbon electrode is presented in this work for the determination of paracetamol in tablet formulations. In contrast to the unmodified electrode, a fourfold increase of cyclic voltammetric oxidative peak current paralleled by reduced potential differ… Show more

“…After overdose uptake of PAR, the toxic intermediate metabolites formation especially ‘‘N‐acetyl p‐benzoquinone‐imine’’ increase [2]. This will cause some symptoms such as nervousness, headaches, nausea, insomnia, seizures, restlessness, trembling, kidney and liverdamage [3–5]. Hence, the analyse of these drugs is very important in pharmaceutical preparations.…”

“…To increase the performance of determination procedures some amendments were introduced. Those include the use of Cu(II)‐conducting polymer , TiO 2 ‐MWCNT , modifying of CPE with Co(II)‐exchanged zeolite A or covering the surface of GCE with Fe(III)‐Y zeolite layer .…”

“…[1] However, either long-term use or overdose of PAR will produce side effects that give rise to symptoms such as neuroticism, insomnia, nausea, tremors, headaches, and restlessness in mild cases, and liver toxicity, kidney damage. [17][18][19] Therefore, the detection of PAR content in biological products and medicines is highly important. [20] Currently, a series of analytical methods have been developed to detect PAR, such as titrimetric, UV-vis spectrophotometry, capillary electrophoresis, high performance liquid chromatography, chemi-luminescence, and electrochemical techniques.…”
