Volatile Constituents ofArtemisia nilagirica

Abstract: The essential oil of ARTEMISIA NILAGIRICA was analysed by capillary gas chromatography, IR, (1)H-NMR, and GC-MS. The main constituents of the oil are camphor, beta-eudesmol, 1,8-cineole, borneol, artemisia alcohol, camphene, alpha-gurjunene, P-cymene, terpinene-4-ol and alpha-pinene.

“…The chemical composition of the oil of A. fragrans aerial parts from Iran (Tabriz in northwestern Iran) has previously been investigated and 1,8-cineole (52.1%) and α-thujone (34.8%) were reported as the principal constituents [7] analyzed and 1, 8-cineole, capillene and eugenol chemotypes were characterized [8]. An oil of A. nilagirica, collected during the flowering stage, from Chamoli, Garhwal Himalaya had as its main constituents camphor (9.7%), β-eudesmol (8.0%), 1, 8-cineole (6.6%), borneol (5.3%), artemisia alcohol (3.4%), camphene (2.6%), α-gurjunene (1.9%), p-cymene (1.6%), terpinen-4-ol (1.2%) and α-pinene (1.2%) [9]. The main oil constituents of A. scoparia leaves cultivated in India were γ-terpinene and eugenol [10].…”
