Volatile components of Malaysian Annona fruits

Abstract: The volatile composition of the fruits of three Annona species from Malaysia was investigated by capillary GC and GC-MS following isolation by simultaneous steam distillation-extraction. A total of fifty-one components were identified in the soursop volatiles, including eleven which have been previously reported in this fruit. Thirty-four volatile components were identified in the sweetsop and fifty-two in the bullock's heart. Most aroma components in the soursop were esters (57.2%), while terpenoid constituen… Show more

“…[8][9][10] However, a closer examination of the chemical structure of NG-3b shows a carbazole-like skeleton which has been found in studies to be important biogenetic precursors in phytochemistry. 12 Furthermore, this compound has been obtained from Lepidium sativum using GC-MS, and FTIR spectrometry.…”

“…Furthermore, these data were found to be consistent with those reported in the literature. [8][9][10][11] Consequently, NG-1b andNG-3b have been revealed to be ethyl cinnamate (cinnamic acid, ethyl ester) and 9-oximino-2, 7-diethoxy fluorene (2, 7-diethoxy-9H-fluoren-9-one oxime) respectively as presented in 1igures1 and 2. Due to the nature of the matrices, many fragmented ions appeared in the mass spectra of the compounds.…”

“…Main components of the leaf oil from France are germacrene D, β-elemene, α-and β-pinene, sabinene, bicyclogermacrene, τ-cadinol and τ-muurolol, while the fruit oil contained spathulenol, bornyl acetate, germacrene D, borneol and verbenone [18]. The fruit oil contained τ-cadinol, τ-muurolol, spathulenol, α-copaene and α-terpineol is reported from Malaysia [19]. Moreover, the bark essential oil contain 1H-cycloprop(e)azulene, germacrene D, bisabolene, caryophyllene oxide, bisabolene epoxide and kaur-16-ene as main constituents [20].…”

“…This plant is native from Central America and is cultivated in the northeastern region of Brazil due its value as a food "in natura" (Souza and Lorenzi 2008). In the traditional medicine, parts of this plant are used as insecticide, antispasmodic, antidiarrheal, analgesic and anti-inflammatory (Vohora et al 1975;Womg et al 1993;Brito et al 2008;Roig 1988;Robineau 1995;Amador et al 2006).…”
