Vocal cord cavernous hemangioma – Case report

Abstract: Laryngeal hemangioma in adults is a very rare condition that occur commonly in the supraglottic regions of the larynx. We present on a heavy smoker man with husky voice for many years. Fiberscopic examination revealed a granular lesion on the right vocal fold. Laryngomicroscopic surgery is applied. Histological diagnosis is cavernous hemangioma with squamous hyperplasia. Laryngeal cavernous hemangioma isolated to the free edge of the vocal fold is a very rare clinical finding.Correspondence to: Tengchin Wang, … Show more

“…Among the hypothesized etiological causes of ALH include laryngeal trauma (i.e., intubation), vocal abuse, and smoking [ 4 ]. The precise incidence and etiology of the tumor are yet unknown due to their rarity [ 6 ]. In our case, the patient had no history of chronic trauma from extended intubation, alcohol misuse, or smoking cigarettes.…”

Hoarseness, dyspnea, dysphagia, and pharyngeal foreign body sensation are the major symptoms of adult-type hemangioma [ 6 ]. In our case, the patient experienced only occasional per oral bleed in the absence of other symptoms.…”

Among the factors that is thought to be causative factors include vocal abuse, cigarette smoking and laryngeal trauma such as in case of intubation 2,3 .
