Visual Interface For Remote Control

Abstract: Remote control using video system is needed in a variety of fields. The performance of remote control using the conventional video system is very poor, compared with the work done by actual on-the-spot observation. We have developed a new Q stereoscopic video system, considering that one of the causes of such poor performance is in the visual interface used in the current teleoperator. This system realizes simultaneously both high resolution and wide visual field by fixed angle lens. Three experiments were imp… Show more

“…When a subject actually works in the real work spot, force, tactile, and acoustic senses are also used besides vision. In the conventional type of teleoperated robots, the lack of sense information except vision may be the reason for the inefficient cognition of working space 6,7) . There were some studies which tried to improve the performance of the teleoperation by providing sense information which subjects usually use in a real working spot 8,9,10) .…”

“…We developed the Q stereoscopic video system which is able to display wide-angle and high-resolution images simultaneously [2,11,13]. This system was designed with regard to human vision, which has high-resolution in the central area and low-resolution in the periphery.…”

“…The Q stereoscopic video system was able to improve the performance of teleoperation and depth perception more than the conventional stereoscopic video system [2,11,13]. However, the Q stereoscopic video system requires four video signal channels to produce compound images.…”
