Characteristics of children’s paintings have been suggested considered for application in public art since they are known to positively evoke a sense of well-being when people see them. This study aims to understand the impact of artistic features from children’s drawings on people’s well-being; then analyzing the adaptive design principles of 3D public art featuring children’s paintings on people’s happiness; and finally, exploring the influence of 3D public art featuring children’s paintings on improving public spaces and enhancing people’s well-being. The results lead to proposing a conceptual framework for public artworks in public spaces for improving people’s happiness. The proposed conceptual framework recommends that, by applying the visual and thinking features of children’s paintings to public art, artists can design high-quality artworks suitable for a city, which could improve people’s happiness in public spaces. This study recommends further research into how public art can promote public spaces and shape the urban culture. It contributes to enhancing the quality of public art and public spaces, and inspiring a sense of well-being among citizens through the use of appropriate public art. The results are significant because they will help artists to create more high-quality public artworks for urban public spaces in order to evoke people’s happiness.

This paper is part of an ongoing doctoral study that looks into the approaches employed by gallery educators at Balai Seni Visual Negara (BSVN) in conducting their educational programmes to a number of special education teachers from a school that specialises in special education. As such, the three primary aspects that function as the focus of the study are: i) perceptions of gallery educators upon the expectations of the school principal, the teachers, and the parents; ii) the organization of the programme in BSVN; as well as iii) its impact upon both special education teachers and administrators. Meanwhile, the methods utilised for data collection are interviews, diary entries, observation, and document analysis. In addition, this study adopts the qualitative case study design with the naturalist paradigm. With that, the discussion generated in this paper only emphasises on the early pre-test data derived from one-to-one interview between a gallery educator and a special education teacher.

The study endeavors to clarify the city of Helsinki's selecting of public art and placing of it in municipal elementary schools. The significance of the art-pedagogical aspects in the public art acquisition and decision-making was measured by clarifying the participation of schools and their users in the processes of art acquisition. The research question is as follows: are art-pedagogical perspectives present in the city's art acquisition process? In the study several employees of the Helsinki City Art Museum were interviewed and the Collection Policy Program of the Helsinki Art Museum 2012 (2013) was used as text material. The meaning structures of the theme interviews were analyzed and content analysis connected with institutional art theory was used, when analyzing the related text material. The study showed that public art is acquired for the Helsinki area elementary schools through percentage financing principle and as Helsinki Art Museum's own acquisitions for the Accessioned collection. In either acquisition models the students were commonly not heard in the decision-making process. Instead teachers were listened to during the art acquisition process. Sometimes the curriculum of a school was reflected in the process. However, when the art acquisition solely by the Art Museum was in question the art-pedagogical activities took place more than in the case of percentage art acquisitions. The study suggests that students' possible learning from and about visual public art and esthetics in the school setting is enhanced when they themselves are involved in the process of public art acquisition, including the artpedagogical activities.
