Vision based Target Tracking/ Following and Estimation of Target Motion

Abstract: The vision based target tracking/ following is presented. There is no interior communication between the target and tracker and their relative displacement is measured with the 3D visual sensors. The tracking/ following control law is designed in the half North-EastDown (NED) frame with the dynamic inversion and the robust perfect tracking (RPT)techniques. The half NED frame is formed by moving the origin of the NED frame to the mass center of the target and then rotating the X axis along the Z axis to be alig… Show more

“…Effectiveness of the operation is very important for the system user. For mission, like object tracking or area scanning, increased system's efficiency transfers into lower costs (Baek, Kwon, Yoder, & Pack, 2013;Peng, Zhao, Lin, & Chen, 2013;Rafi, Khan, Shafiq, & Shah, 2006;Rafi et al, 2006;Ruangwiset, 2009), but for some specific types of missions (e.g. Search and Rescue operations), higher efficiency equals to reduced operational time which results in higher chances to find the survivors and save their lives.…”

“…A tracking of moving objects by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is investigated by many authors. [1][2][3][4] In this research, the tracking task was a part of wider mission that contains three phases: Locate, Target, and Track (LTT). The optimization of Locate and Target tasks was subject to other research optimized within the project OpUSS-''Optimization of Unmanned System of Systems''-performed at Warsaw University of Technology under a research grant agreement with Lockheed Martin Corporation.…”

“…There are several references published, which concern target tracking. In some of them, stochastic methods 1,3,5 were used for generating tracking trajectory; in others, a deterministic approach 2,4 was investigated. To optimize the path of a tracking vehicle, various methods were used, such as Markov decision processes 1 or dynamic programming.…”

“…for a non-cooperative setting (Peng, Shiyu, Lin, & Chen, 2013). For this application, no communication exists between both the tracker and target aircraft; a static feature point on the target is tracked, and the distance between the two are estimated by the vision system.…”
