Virtual Surgery, Applications and Limitations

Abstract: Virtual Reality (VR) is a widespread topic not only in computer graphics but also in many other fields. In this paper, virtual reality and Augmented Reality (AR) in medicine especially in virtual surgery is taken into consideration. This survey consists of a systematic collection of existing methods and techniques for virtual surgery using Augmented Reality. The motive for doing this study was the current stage of AR technology in virtual surgery. To figure out such problem, this study attempts to critically r… Show more

“…Shadows help realise the relative distance of objects in a scene not only for stratified real world, e.g., underground [7] but also for virtual environments such as virtual molecula [8], virtual surgery [9], virtual hydrological environments [10] and virtual city [11, 12]. Shadows also help reveal the complexity of objects.…”

“…Virtual Reality (VR) is used for training in medical emergency situations [1], mechanical assembly [2,3] and military preparation [4] due to its low cost, rapid setup time, safety and capability to repeat and track users' tasks. These tasks involve a series of actions to be performed, for example, walking around an area while moving objects from one place to another.…”
