Videoconference-Based Adapted Physical Exercise Training Is a Good and Safe Option for Seniors

Abstract: Videoconference-based adapted physical exercise combines the benefits of supervised exercise training with staying at home, when conventional training is inaccessible. However, exercising with the use of a screen can be considered an optokinetic stimulation, and could therefore induce changes in sensory processing, affecting postural stability. The objectives of this study were to compare the effectiveness of the training delivered Face-to-Face and by Videoconferencing in improving physical capacities of older… Show more

“…This improvement is probably due to the aerobic component of the proposed remote intervention that included two 30-min walking sessions per week and a remote aerobic exercise class. Interestingly and accordingly, the same outcome of increased cardiorespiratory fitness was seen in a study carried out by Kuldavletova et al 31 , in which face-to-face and video conference training were compared, and both promoted an increase in this physical fitness parameters.…”

“…The use of mobile technology-based health interventions is encouraged, and the use of programs is supported to reach large populations economically (Mönninghoff et al, 2021;Stork et al, 2021). Videoconference-based exercise training can be considered a safe and effective way to maintain functional capacity (Kuldavletova et al, 2021). We observed a significant effect on flexibility by using the video conference method in our study.…”

“…This is consistent with prior research, in which interactive physical activity programs elicited a greater feeling of safety among participants due to supervision of an exercise professional (94-96). In addition, fears of falling are lessened in a supervised environment compared to independent activity (97)(98)(99).…”
